RADISH in LA - Part 1

It will be of no great surprise that California is one of my favourite places. Since I first visited LA about ten years ago, I’ve tried to go as often as I can.  I think of Los Angeles as one of Radish's spiritual homes and it's been a massive influence in the creation of Radish and all we do. I've put together a short guide of some of our favourite places, things to do and prime people watching spots. Like the town itself, it's quite large so I've split it into areas. Part 1 - Venice & Topanga Canyon ...

First things first, download the '5 Every Day' app.  As it says, it gives you five new things to do everyday. On that day. Whether an opening, a gig or a hidden tiki bar.

VENICE

Lots of new cafes, restaurants and shops have sprung up on Lincoln Blvd (near the more popular Abbot Kinney) – like the brunch spot Superba Food + Bread. There is also the massive vintage shop ‘The Mart Collective’, like if Snooper’s Paradise in Brighton had a pricier Californian cousin.

Find refreshment at Gjusta.  Sophie from @loam.kitchen got us onto this deli / bakery. It’s both beautiful to look at and full of delicious things. I once queued up with favourite Radish muse Lauren Hutton, which was cherry on the Gjusta cake. And then almost fainted as she told me she liked my gold sandals.

For an ice cream try Salt & Straw – 2 scoops of Honey Lavender in a waffle cone please. And then go buy everything in Burro.

Talk a walk down to the sea, surf and pelicans to Venice Skate Park. It is like a Hugh Holland photo come to life.

I also like wander around the roads between Abbot Kinney and Lincoln Boulevard and canals. And play ‘find my dream house' and spot the hummingbird. With road names like Shell Avenue and Palms Blvd.

TOPANGA CANYON

It's just magic. Drive up for the day or stay in a dreamy Airbnb in the hills for the light, peace (bar the sound of wind chimes ) and my favourite Hidden Treasures vintage emporium.
